I was lucky enough to visit the set of ABC’s comedy Dr. Ken along with the cast! You may know Ken Jeong in his film roles – Leslie Chow in The Hangover is probably the most popular one that comes to mind – but now he is working behind and in front of the camera. As creator and star of the show he is often grabbing inspiration from wherever he can get it – like his own family.
“My wife helped write some of the medical dialogue for Allison (Ken’s TV wife who is a psychologist). Didn’t get a writing credit though” he laughed.
Dr. Ken focuses around Ken Park, a constantly-joking, narcissistic general practitioner at Welltopia Medical Group. He is a married father of 2 kids, one 16 year old daughter (Krista Marie Yu) who is obsessed with her friends, getting good grades, and trying to get into a major university; and a 10 year old son (Albert Tsai) who has obsessive-compulsive tendencies and is incredibly smart. Luckily, his therapist wife Allison (Suzy Nakamura) is just the right partner to keep things sane.
The ensemble cast also includes Dave Foley (“Kids in the Hall”) as Ken’s boss Pat Hein, Jonathan Slavin as Clark Leslie Beavers, RN at Welltopia, Tisha Campbell-Martin as office manager Damona Watkins, and Dana Lee as Ken’s father “D.K.”. Together they bounce off of each other in energetic banter that shouldn’t be missed!
Ken Jeong was so exciting to meet! I have been a fan for years. I told my husband I was meeting him and even he was a little jealous I got to hang out with such a funny celebrity.
Dave Foley… when I was in college I used to watch “Kids in the Hall” constantly. I LOVED it and totally miss the show, but it’s so nice to be able to watch him on Dr. Ken. I admit I was a little nervous because he is one star I have admired for over 20 years.
Walking around the set was so much fun! I hung out in the living room, got to chill in the kitchen, and checked out Welltopia.
Be sure to watch tonight’s NEW Dr. Ken on ABC:
“D.K.’s New Girlfriend” – When D.K. overhears Allison complain about him overstaying his welcome, he decides to move in with his girlfriend of three weeks. Meanwhile, Pat wants Dave to pretend he’s his adopted son; and Allison is convinced Molly wants to talk about something when she suggests they do a spa day, but the tables turn when Molly is the one doling out the advice, on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2 (8:30-9:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network.
