Let’s do a frame-by-frame breakdown of the latest Game Day trailer for
Avengers: Endgame
in theaters April 26, 2019
We start with single frame flashes of the following characters:
- Hope Van Dyne (Wasp)
- Nick Fury
- Spider-Man
- Dr. Strange
- Falcon
- Scarlett Witch
- ALL of the Guardians of the Galaxy (in their jail uniforms from GotG1)
- T-Challa (Black Panther)
- Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier)
- Vision
Each frame is black and white except for spots of red. Blood red. The common thread with all of these characters with the exception of Rocket is that they were all dusted in Avengers: Infinity War.
Okay, first second of the trailer down. Yes, it was all in one second.
Next – the Marvel Studios logo getting dusted away like the previous trailer.
Flash of the Manhattan skyline. Everything seems to happen in New York, doesn’t it? It’s dark, gloomy, blue haze looks incredibly sinister.
Broken down boats and ships have all settled into the bay around the Statue of Liberty. It’s obvious that Thanos’ snappening made a global impact. It looks like a new cold era for the world.
Citifield is abandoned. The cars in the parking lot mimic the boats in the previous frame.
“Some people…”
Now there’s a room that looks like an official building. A poster reads “Where Do We Go, Now That They’re Gone?” Four people are sitting in the background looking as though they are having some sort of meeting or support group.
“…move on”
The voice over seems to answer the question posed on the poster.
Captain America appears. He’s clean shaven, dressed in civilian clothing, and in my opinion looking a little thin. It’s assumed he’s one of the ones seated. He’s contemplating and reacting as though he agrees with what was said, but with apprehension. This looks like a support group of some sort and the ones seated (and blurred) are definitely NOT Avengers, but Cap is definitely in that same room (see the stacked chairs), so it’s assumed he’s one of the blurred characters.
“But not us…”
Next frame – Tony Stark and Nebula frantically doing some metal work, assuming they are fixing the Benatar. It looks like Nebula is pulling parts from her arm?
Now we have Captain America, Bruce Banner, Black Widow, and War Machine walking outside of the Avengers HQ looking up into the night sky in astonishment. My guess is they see The Benatar, the ship that Tony and Nebula are on.
Rocket bursts through a doorway that looks very much like the door to Thanos’ new digs. I don’t know, but it’s probably not Earth.
Black Widow is doing to gun target practice with a look of determination. Man, she looks pissed.
Next Ant-man and War Machine suiting up at the Avenger’s headquarters. They also look pissed.
Thor looking at something intently.
Wait – is that Dr. Strange at Thanos’ home??? Is he holding an umbrella?? No, it’s probably Thor with the Stormbreaker, but it had me doing a doubletake. It looks like he’s in Wakanda.
Ahh Hawkeye, there you are. The red light on his face mimics the red accents in the first second of the trailer. Foreshadowing? I should note it appears that he is in some sort of forest, definitely not in Tokyo like before.
Captain America’s hand shakes as he straps on his shield. Dang.
Stark black screen. For impact, natch…
Now we see the dawn of a new day as Captain America, Ant-Man, Black Widow, Rocket, Bruce, and War Machine go to presumably save the world.
“Not us.”
Honestly the voice sounds like Tony Stark to me.
I’d love to hear your thoughts – sound off in the comments!
