Sharing is caring!

Chalkboards remind us of our old school days, and they’re popular in restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. With the holidays fast approaching, you can add them to your house for a little bit of decorative effect. Whatever idea you have in mind, it’s possible to hang it on your wall. All you need are the materials, including chalk markers, chalkboards, and measuring tape. Alternatively, you can also use stencils to add words to your boards.

1. Get Your Christmas Theme Ready

Do you want to draw a winter wonderland, snowman, Santa or a reindeer? These are some of the favorite chalkboard inspiration ideas out there, but you can choose to have four to six boards with different ideas. For example, if you want to draw a reindeer-themed board, you can write all the famous reindeer names, including Dasher, Prancer, Dancer, Vixen, Blitzen, Donner, and Rudolph.

You could also draw a Christmas tree and use different chalk colors for some color. Add reflective particles to give the tree some glittering effect. Something to do with angels, snowflakes, jingle bells, and elves is also an excellent idea for your art.

2. Freehand or Stencils

If you’re confident about your drawing skills, freehand drawing can help you save time on each board. However, beginners usually have a problem constant erasing. The freehand drawing will be great if you first draw weak lines, which you can wipe out later.

With stencils, you don’t need to cut out letters for every word. Some words will share certain letters, and there are also letters that will appear multiple times in the same word. For example, the letters “s” and “a” appear twice on the word “Christmas Day.”

3. Use a Sketched Design

It’s fast and easy to draw your chalkboard art from a sketch. This will save you the trouble of erasing over and over. So, start with sketching your idea on a piece of paper using a pencil. It will be very convenient to get the design right on a piece of paper than the board itself. You can then transfer the design easily to your board.

A sketch gives you the elemental composition of your art and allows you to evaluate different choices you might have. Play around with your idea or have different sketch layouts to help you pick one for your art. Make sure to use quality chalk markers, such as Versachalk markers, to help you make your boards stunning.

4. Placement Ideas

There are varied ways you can position your completed boards to give your space a stunning look. One thing to bear in mind when hanging the pieces on your wall is that they should be at an eye level. If you’re hanging several pieces together, ensure you have at least 4 to 6 inches between them.

If it’s one large board, you can place it right over a piece of furniture. Keep in mind that it shouldn’t be wider than 75 percent of the furniture’s width. If you have several art pieces, group them in balance on the wall. With all arts, you can use several of them to create a fantastic holiday story.

If you don’t want to damage your walls, you can get a table or desk to lean them on the wall. This is great for medium to small sized chalkboards. You can also place oversized chalkboard art in places or corners with little to no foot traffic.

The Takeaway!

The holiday season offers an excellent time to get creative while still making your home appealing. With chalkboards, you can use quotes, images, and other elements to transform the style of your home. You don’t need to be a skilled artist to make your art pieces amazing. Using rulers and stencils will make the whole process easy fun!
