I had been excited about the release of Disney’s Moana since I first heard about it in 2015 – and now it’s on DVD/Blu-ray! My kids were thrilled that we got to do a huge viewing party at my house last week in celebration of the release.
A small pounamu stone that is the mystical heart of the island goddess Te Fiti is stolen by the demigod Maui, who was planning to give it to humanity as a gift. As Maui makes his escape, he is attacked by the lava demon Te Kā, causing the heart of Te Fiti and his power-granting magical fish hook to be lost in the ocean.
A millennium later, young Moana, daughter and heir of the chief on the small Polynesian island of Motunui, is chosen by the ocean to receive the heart, but drops it when her father, Chief Tui, comes to get her. He insists the island provides everything the villagers need. But years later, fish become scarce and the island’s vegetation begins dying. Moana proposes going beyond the reef to find more fish. Tui rejects her request, as sailing past the reef is forbidden.
We had a bunch of the twins’ friends over and had so much fun with the goodies that Disney sent over to get us in the celebration!
I wanted to make something fun and easy that the kids would love, so I decided I would make some Maui Fish Hooks to go on top of cupcakes! They were incredibly easy to make too!
Moana: Maui's Chocolate Hooks
Ingredients
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- White chocolate chips
- two gallon-sized ziplock bags
- wax paper
Instructions
- Fill each bag with each flavor chips - one semi-sweet and one white chocolate.
- Melt in microwave (50% power for about 2 minutes, checking every 30 seconds until melted completely). snip a corner of the white bag and draw the fish hook shape onto wax paper.
- Snip the corner of the semi-sweet bag and make the handle of the hook by drawing directly on the top of the end of the white chocolate hook.
- Place in fridge for about 20 minutes or until firm.
- Remove carefully and put on top of a frosted cupcake of your choice!
The kids will love it and you will look like a rockstar!
You can have your own viewing party by getting Moana on DVD/Blu-ray anywhere DVD’s are sold.
*I received a package of goodies and a gift card in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
