Chris Pratt walked into our small interview room at The London Hotel in Hollywood with a big, beaming smile…

“Mommy bloggers!!!” He exclaimed as we clapped in applause. “I need that from every room, I love this!”

Chris Pratt reprises his role as Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, in theaters May 5th. In the film we see Peter, Gamora, and the rest of the Guardians continue with their lives banded together, coming across several new characters – including Taser Face (Chris Sullivan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and his own father, Ego (Kurt Russell). There are plenty of surprises, lots of action, and yes – a shirtless scene of Peter Quill.

“This new story, the reality of his biological father and how he built his father up in his mind is very contemporary a lot of kids are going to relate to that – whose dads weren’t around, who possibly had another father figure who raised them and how we can take relationships for granted.”

“That movie is exactly how the script read and I was relieved to see the movie was as good as the script” Chris said as he talked about his first impression of reading James Gunn’s latest installment. “James Gunn told me the whole script a month after the first movie came out, I was the first person to hear it.”

Working with Kurt Russell

“We share a lot of the same passions. He tells it like it is and I like that. He’s this iconic dude, there’s always that moment when you meet someone and you’re a big fan, and you feel like you have to tell them. I said ‘listen, I have to get this out of the way, but I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!’ and he goes ‘hm, thanks…’ And we got to work.”

Peter Quill’s favorite snack

If you aren’t following Chris Pratt on instagram, you need to. His hilarious videos called #WhatsMySnack show him making snack time a big game. Naturally we needed to know Star-Lord’s favorite snack.

“Peter Quill’s shirt in the movie has a logo that is the label on a piece of candy in the first movie, that’s a snack that I think Peter Quill likes to eat.”

“If I am going to be fully authentic, I am pretty careful about when I reveal myself to the public. When I do a magazine cover or shirtless I dial it in, but I also need to live my life. The best way to think about it is to not have a weight goal. My goal is 6 months, like 6 months of consistency. Make the goal a consistency, make it a lifestyle.

How He Balances It

“Reporters always ask Anna (Faris, his wife) this question and never me, so I am glad you asked. It’s not easy, it’s communication. We have help, we have to plan everything. You manage it by making sure everyone is doing what they need to be doing. I focused on what I can do. You don’t have to be present to be a presence. With technology, facetime, checking in, and nurturing your relationship with your spouse is important. Prioritize, make lists.”

This was the part when he apologized for being sweaty. No apology needed…
