This is such an economical recipe to make but that doesn’t mean you’re sacrificing any flavor. In fact, the end flavor of these Salisbury steaks is incredibly good. You’ll need extra-lean ground beef along with flour, cream, onion soup mix and French onion soup which you don’t dilute. Once you’ve made these charming, juicy patties, you just need to sear them and add the sauce on top, then finish them off in the oven.
You’ll need a cast iron skillet to make these or another heatproof pan. If you don’t have one, just transfer everything into a baking dish and use that. Salisbury steaks is the name given to oval-shaped beef patties. They’re a budget alternative to steak but every bit as juicy and tasty. Served with mashed potatoes and your favorite vegetable, this recipe makes a fantastic midweek dinner. The onion flavor really complements the Salisbury steaks, while the cream adds a rich flavor and texture to the dish.
Grandpa used to make Salisbury steaks this way and everyone loved them. It’s so nice the recipe is living on, and now you can make your own Salisbury steaks in rich and creamy French onion sauce.
