Most people boil rice on the stove, while others have invested in a rice cooker. But those aren’t the only methods you can use to make perfect rice. The following recipe combines the rice with beef broth, French onion soup, and a stick of butter. Yes, you read that right. This baked rice dish has beef and onion flavors, and all the rich lusciousness butter brings. You can enjoy it as a side dish or add some veggies and maybe meat or chicken and have it as a meal in its own right.

Make sure you have long-grain white rice and condensed soup and broth. Unsalted butter works best if you have it, since the soup and broth can be salty. Once you try baked rice instead of stovetop rice, you might never want to cook it in a saucepan or rice cooker again! This is one of those recipes you just have to make at least once because you’ve probably never had anything quite like it before.

Baked rice isn’t something everyone has tried, but it’s well worth making. The flavors from the soup and broth are so good and, as for the butter, you can’t go wrong with this ingredient. It gives such a creamy, luscious textured result.

Why You’ll Love the Recipe:

Baked rice is a showstopping side dish. It’s so different from the rice you cook on the stove. Something else you’ll love about this is there’s no guesswork about when the rice has absorbed all the liquid, an issue the stovetop method often presents. Even if you overcook baked rice a little, it’s very forgiving.

Serving suggestions:

This makes a tasty side dish or you can add meat, chicken, and/or vegetables, and enjoy it as a main dish. It’s best served warm but can also be served cold as a rice salad.

Variations and Substitutions:

Try different flavors of soup and broth if you like, or add in some cooked chicken or beef chunks. If you only have salted butter, use a reduced salt soup and/or broth to make up for it.

Ingredients needed:

  • Condensed beef broth
  • Unsalted butter
  • Long-grain white rice
  • Condensed French Onion soup

Can You Make It Ahead?

Yes, this can be prepared in advance and then warmed back up in the oven or microwave.

Storage Instructions:

Keep leftovers covered and refrigerated, and eat within 3 days.
