Diy – Handmade Plantable Paper Favors
These little plantable hearts are perfect favors – and they are incredibly easy to make! I went online in search of a place to purchase them. I found some but the prices were way out of my range – $50-$100 for them! So I decided I could make my own. I was able to make over 50 of them for under $10! Here’s what you need:

  • Paper – any paper will do. I used red and white construction paper for these.
  • Seeds – flower or herb seeds work best. I used 4 packets
  • Large bowl
  • Blender
  • Water
  • Small cookie cutters. I used the heart from the Wilton Romantic Mini Metal Cookie Cutter set ($3.49 at Michaels Crafts)
  • Large Towel
  • Paper Towels 0r a small towel

Tear the paper into small pieces (about quarter size) into a bowl. If you want color use one or two sheets per 5 sheets of white unless you want a more vibrant color. cover the paper bits with water and mix together until the paper is saturated. Let sit for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight. Mix and squeeze the paper in the water, then transfer to a blender. Puree until it looks like a thick smoothie. Drain excess water and transfer paper pulp to a towel. Fold the towel over and squeeze excess water out into the sink. Diy – Handmade Plantable Paper Favors
Add seeds and mix with hands, or press seeds into small balls of pulp. Place cookie cutter on paper towels or hand towel and add a small ball of pulp into the middle. Using your finger and/or , push pulp down firmly to squeeze more water out. Carefully push the shape through and place on a paper towel. Let air dry in a warm spot- usually a couple of days depending on your climate. You can also put the shapes in the oven set at 200 for an 1-2 hours. For the marbled effect I mixed two different batches of paper together in two different colors. These are great for several occasions, like weddings, showers, memorials, birthday parties, and more! You can even use them as gift tags! Recipients can plant these into pots or the ground and enjoy beautiful flowers that remind them of you.
