Black Forest Texas Sheet Cake

You just can’t go wrong with devil’s food cake, especially when paired with cherries and topped with whipped cream, cherry pie filling and even shaved chocolate! It’s so decadent and indulgent.

Ingredients
  

For the cake:

  • 1 box devil’s food cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 x 21-ounce cans of cherry pie filling

For the frosting:

  • ¼ cup milk
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For the topping:

  • Whipped cream as needed
  • A chocolate bar

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 15x10-inch baking sheet.
  • Whisk together the eggs and vanilla.
  • Add the devil’s food cake mix and half the cherry pie filling.
  • Whisk and then spread the batter in the greased baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  • Meanwhile, make the frosting.
  • Put the milk, butter and sugar in a pan.
  • Cook over a moderate heat until melted, stirring frequently.
  • Add the chocolate chips and stir until the mixture is smooth.
  • Pour this hot frosting over the cake while it’s still warm.
  • Use an offset spatula to smooth it and make sure it’s even.
  • Let the cake cool, then cut into squares and top each one with some whipped cream and some cherry pie filling.
  • Shave the chocolate bar on top, then serve.
