I have never been much of a soda drinker. My reasons?
- Sugar. I try as hard as I can to keep a low sugar intake.
- The bottles seem wasteful. If I buy a big 2 liter bottle it goes flat before I have a chance to drink more than a glass.
- Environmentally unsound. Manufacturing bottles and cans just seems like a lot of energy to use. And Although I recycle, I know every single person on this earth doesn’t, so those cans and bottles end up in landfills. About 80% according to the US Recycling Institute!
- Lugging a bottle of soda from the grocery store to my home doesn’t sound like something I would want to do!
But I LOVE the taste of soda. I love carbonation bubbles.
We were pretty excited to try the SodaStream system out. The Genesis is pretty sleek and goes well in our kitchen, taking up very little space! The liter bottles screw on inside the Genesis and then all you do is press the button on the very top. It will buzz when it’s done carbonating, but you can always add more fizz if you want (I totally did this!). Then you pour a capful of the flavor you choose into the bottle (SLOWLY or else you will end up with what I did – soda water on your kitchen counter!) and lightly shake. I just turned the bottle back and forth a couple of times to mix the flavor with the water and not drum up bubbles.
I was a little wary because SodaStream flavors have less than 1/3 the sugar of regular sodas (on average). Sugar is supposed to make it yummier, right? Well, I was wrong. I am absolutely in love with the new flavors too – Crystal Light, Hawaiian Punch, and Country Time. Especially the Hawaiian Punch. OMG. DELICIOUS. Best of all I don’t have to get dressed and go to the store if I want something fizzy. Yay for JAMMIE DAY!
You can find SodaStream at Kroger & Fred Meyer, Target, Walmart, Macy’s. Everywhere. You can also order it directly from their site which is even easier.

*please note that I did have a sweet video review about this super-awesome product, but I fried my computer before I had a chance to upload it. But hopefully you will see it. Someday….
