Rolling Stone Under Fire Over Controversial Cover on Boston Bomber, CVS Refuses to Sell
Rolling Stone announced the new cover for their August cover on Facebook of Boston bomber Jahar Tsarnaev along with an editorial excerpt from the new periodical and people are up in arms over it. Twitter is full of celebs and non-celebs alike letting Rolling Stone what they think of the cover
Rolling Stone editors responded saying “the cover story we are publishing this week falls within the traditions of journalism and Rolling Stone’s longstanding commitment to serious and thoughtful coverage. The fact that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is young, and in the same age group as many of our readers, makes it all the more important for us to examine the complexities of this issue and gain a more complete understanding of how a tragedy like this happens.” (TMZ)
That’s all fine and well for a magazine like Time or Newsweek, but Rolling Stone is a music magazine. Or was anyway.
CVS and Roche Bros have announced that they will not be carrying the issue in their stores. Personally I don’t blame them and have canceled my subscription.
*Update* – Walgreens will also not sell the issue as per Facebook update:
*Update #2* Neither is Rite Aid
