I don't know about you but I am pretty tired of the mountains and mountains of candy in Easter baskets. I would rather have my kids get some fun games and cool DIY projects which is why I gathered some of my favorites. Enjoy!

Thursday evening my family and I had the sheer pleasure of seeing the touring Broadway show of Disney's Aladdin at Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon. I have to tell you, it was one of the best tours I have ever seen. The animated classic came out in 1992. I was 18 years old and living a hop skip and jump from Disneyland at the time. My youngest sister Grace was 7 years old and I am pretty sure we watched Aladdin on video every day for over a year straight. I could recite the film and sing the songs today. The Broadway show has every single one of the original songs, some original dialogue, and a range of new songs to help it make more sense on the stage. Gone is Abu the monkey and in his place are three of Aladdin's besties which I didn't seem to mind. Raja the tiger was also replaced by 3 of Jasmine's chamber girls. Iago was there in a birdlike rotund human. Even though the animals were gone there were nods and hints to the new character origins, such as Jafar complaining that Iago is "parroting" him by repeating everything he says. Aladdin's friends make mention of acting like monkeys in the bazaar too. With the new characters came some fantastic new songs as well.  But the obvious standout is Genie played by Major Attaway. Showstopping number "Friend Like Me" was expertly sung and imagined onstage by the cast. The scene ends with streamers and fireworks and really brought us, the audience into the performance. it was pure magic and a sight to see. Clinton Greenspan as Aladdin captures the child-like unrefined-yet-charming personality of Aladdin perfectly. Lissa deGuzman has the Disney princess thing down to a science and perfected Jasmine on stage.  Aladdin is at Keller Auditorium through April 7 2019. For more information visit Broadway in Portland or head over to my Aladdin Announcement for more details.

Cultivating gratitude in your life is an important skill. Gratitude can help you feel satisfied with what you have, rather than focused on what you don’t have. One way to cultivate this skill is by making sure you say “thank you” to your friends and family.  Telling your friends and family you’re thankful for them will help strengthen your relationships and help you feel happier. Usually, thanking people via phone call, text, or face to face does the trick. Sometimes though, when someone has done you a huge favor, you’ve got to send a thank you card. There’s a trick to writing thank you cards. If you start off by saying “Thank you so much for X,” it’s hard to find something else to say after that. But if you don’t say anything else, your thank you card is only a sentence long. To help lengthen your thank you card, try talking about what they did for you, without thanking them for it at first. Here’s an example: “I’m really looking forward to going to college, Aunt J. I can’t wait to signup for classes and make new friends. The money you gave me will be so helpful to pay for everything. Thank you so much for all your love and support! Love, Alice” Aunt J helped pay for Alice to go to school, so Alice talks about school first. Then she mentions the money Aunt J gave to her, then Alice thanks her for it. And there we have a nice four sentence long thank you card. Aunt J is sure to feel the thought and care that went into writing it. Now that you’ve got a fool-proof method for writing your thank you notes, you need to find some cards you love to send out. One website with some great options is Basic Invite. They have all the thank you cards you could ever want, and all of their designs are color customizable. So if you like a design, but hate the color scheme, you can change it up how you want. They have over 40 different colors of envelopes, so you can match your cards to your envelopes. I’m partial to their glamorous typography thank you cards, but if that’s not your style, you can find all their options here. They also have cards for most major life events, like weddings and graduations. I really like their graduation picnic invitations and their official graduation invitations. I hope you can use this advice to write some awesome thank you cards and cultivate gratitude in your life. And I hope your friends and family adore the beautiful stationery you send them!

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group®, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #AddSpirit2Breakfast http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV My daughter and I love doing things together. Whether it's creating some new art, watching Spirit Riding Free on Netflix (and doing some fun Spirit activities!), or making something new and delicious to eat it's always a treat. And speaking of treat - our latest dose of yumminess comes from two staples that I always have on hand - EGGO Strawberry Waffles and Reddi-wip that I always buy at Walmart.  We get up early every morning for school - around 6:30! So to have a delicious breakfast waiting for her is a must to start the day off on the right foot and set her up for success. She gets a Strawberry Waffle Tower and I get my coffee with some Reddi-wip to top it off. I definitely prefer Reddi-wip over other brands - there are less hydrogenated oils than other frozen whipped toppings with real cream being the first ingredient - and of course only the best cream is used! EGGO waffles are perfect for the morning cold air. They are warm, fluffy, and toast up in minutes. We especially love the strawberry variety because it's perfect with fresh strawberries and a big dollop of Reddi-wip on top.  Recently Riley has been very into Spirit Riding Free, a story about a girl named Lucky who befriends a wild stallion named Spirit. They go on big adventures with her new friend Pru and Abigail along with their own horses. I love that the show (currently on Netflix) features strong and loyal female leads. Lucky is a great role model for little girls. And of course Riley LOVES it. She also loves the free activities available in conjunction with the series. You can find Reddi-Wip and Eggo products - including non-dairy Reddi-Wip made with Coconut Milk - at all Walmart locations! Be sure to check out Spirit Riding Free on Netflix with your little one - she will love it just as much as my daughter does!

Thank you to Cirque du Soleil for providing tickets. All opinions are my own.  Yes I know the title is odd but so is Cirque du Soleil. That's the charm of the worldwide phenomenon. The quirkiness of a circus, the quaintness of a live show, and the thrill of acrobatics. This time Cirque du Soleil is set in France, where we see Clown and lead character Mauro has passed and his loved ones are paying their respects. Angels fly overhead, acrobats do death-defying feats, and we get to celebrate his life with the cast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0a4M4cKjIk I loved that the stage was set in the center of the theater with an intimate audience on either side of it. It made the entire show intimate but clever and able to entertain the masses. It was unlike any show I have seen before. The clown Mauro has passed, but his spirit is still with us. Instead of mourning, the funeral cortege celebrates the here and hereafter with laughter and exuberance. Rich, extravagant memories frolic with the senses. The sound of laughter peals around the stage, visions of joyous tumblers and players fascinate the eyes. Regret and melancholy retreat in the face of a cavalcade of lively recollections of a life gloriously lived. A festive parade that entertains; the perfect accolade for an artist whose life was dedicated to revelry and making merry. There were some amazing acts throughout the show, including my favorite The Suspended Pole, where the woman Mauro fell in love with dances a beautiful number around a suspended pole.  Another highlight was the Helium Dance because it involves audience participation. The dancer is small and light enough to be suspended from 4 large helium balloons and Mauro sets her sailing into the audience where she must rely on us to push her into the air.  Cirque du Soleil was definitely one of my favorites of the Cirque show library. It was like the Smashing Pumpkins video "Tonight, Tonight" came to life in front of me.  You can see Cirque du Soleil Corteo in Portland through March 17th or find out when it will come to a city near you.

Did I ever tell you about the time I went to the set of Captain Marvel last year? Oh, I didn't? .  What about the fact that I got to watch a scene be filmed involving Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Goose the Cat? Omg, NO?  Or when I got to play with the super-galactic weapon props used in the film.. ...okay sit down, grab a Zima, and let me tell you about it all... Let's start from the beginning.. I, along with some of my favorite Disney bloggers were in town for Marvel's uber-hit Avengers: Infinity War, which was pretty epic in itself. I walked the red carpet, met some great people, and got the huge surprise of a Captain Marvel set visit. YESSSS!! For a Marvel superhero film set in the 90's (my prime time) it was a cool treat. We got to the set and immediately got to check out a HUGE Skrull ship set. This thing was massive, and part of a pivotal scene. Also FUN FACT: Most of the ship is made of foam. Because of the rounded alien shapes it's easier to carve the walls and details from foam instead of trying to plaster it. This also makes it easier to move huge set pieces around.  I got to reenact a scene with the Mind Fracker. Kinda. My mind did not get fracked, I'm still okay... Next were the props. These were so much fun! I found out that there are some that have some technology in them - they light up, etc - and there are identical props that are made from light styrofoam. this way they aren't hard for the actors to carry during their scenes.  Finally we were excited to see a small portion of a scene filmed. The scene was Carol Danvers in her Nine Inch Nails t-shirt, baseball cap and leather motorcycle jacket sitting in the cockpit of her ship with Nick Fury and Goose the cat. Literally all we watched was Goose jump on the dashboard about 10 times and Brie picking him up to remove him from her view so she could do her job. But it was pretty magical. I chatted with producer Jonathan Schwartz about the trials and tribulations of working with animals (there are actually 3 different cats portraying Goose) and cool 90's music.  The best thing about this set visit was seeing exactly how cool Samuel L Jackson really is.  While watching a solo Brie Larson shot Jackson sat in his director's chair, silently watching the scene moments play out in front of him. His mere presence, lightly and randomly lit from above was almost majestic. I wish I could have taking a photo because words just don't do it justice.   And Brie Larson is pretty sweet too, just as you'd expect her to be. She was obviously enjoying her role as Carol Danvers and her major role in the MCU, and I can't wait to see what she does.  Have you seen Captain Marvel yet? It's in theaters right now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LHxvxdRnYc

When I was young and living in beautiful and sunny Southern California, I didn't seem to worry too much about my skincare routine. I would wear sunscreen (being a natural redhead I would get burned easily), but I didn't really think about things like moisturizer and sometimes *gasp* forewent washing my face before I went to bed. I know, I know...  Now that I am older I spend an embarrassing amount of time caring for my skin, searching for the right skincare products, fighting my fine lines tooth and nail. So when Vine Vera wanted to partner with me I was intrigued. Was this the skincare regimen I was searching for? I decided to try it for a full month and give my report after using the brand. At nearly 45 years old I need to fight this aging thing with tooth and nail.  Let's start by talking about the key ingredient in most of the Vine Vera product line - Resveratrol. I had never heard of it until trying Vine Vera, but apparently it's a pretty potent chemical found in different fruits and nuts.  Though some believe Resveratrol was first extracted from Japanese knotweed, in fact it was initially isolated in 1940 from the roots of a flowering plant called a hellebore by a Japanese scientist. Contemporary experts began researching Resveratrol’s possible medical value in the 1970s. Additional investigation uncovered that plants seem to produce resveratrol in response to stress from injuries or diseases as a protective mechanism. In the early nineties it was proposed that resveratrol’s might be responsible for the cardiovascular benefits of red wine. Since then, hundreds of reports have indicated that resveratrol’s benefits in protecting against diseases and extending life span. Lately Resveratrol popularity is linked to being an ingredient in Vitis vinifera L., or the common grapevine. The greatest concentration of grapevine resveratrol is found in the grape skin, giving red wines a concentration ranging anywhere from 0.2 mg/l to 7.0 mg/l, depending upon the wine. I read up a bit more about Resveratrol - Resveratrol is part of a group of compounds called polyphenols. They’re thought to act like antioxidants, protecting the body against damage that can put you at higher risk for things like cancer and heart disease. Apparently this is why some doctors even say a glass of red wine can be good for you. It's mainly found in the skin of red grapes, which is how Vine Vera harvests and uses the naturally made chemical.  Let's move onto the Vine Vera product line and what I used. Vine Vera offers 12 different collections based on the needs of the consumer. Each of these lines targets problems you may have - rough skin texture, fine lines, elasticity, luminosity, and more. They all use specific berries (wine grapes) based on the skin condition you are wanting to improve. Personally my biggest concern is fine lines. I do have some skin redness from sun damage, but I have had some of that corrected with expensive and painful facials. Anything left over I can easily correct with makeup. But my under eye lines, crow's feet and the dreaded "11" between my eyebrows? Those are my areas I am very self-conscious of. As a 44 (almost 45!) year old woman I am really seeing how much these problems affect my face. I also have the beginnings of jawline droop and no amount of contouring makes me happy there.  The collection recommended to me was Shiraz Instentic. This collection focuses on firming and lifting the skin using ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin A, DMAE, and of course Resveratrol. I was sent the following products to try out: Resveratrol Shiraz Instentic Facelift This cream is the grand finale of the Resveratrol Shiraz Collection. Boost your skin with the trendy ingredient DMAE, Resveratrol Ferment extract and vitamins. This rich yet non-greasy formula will leave your skin feeling firmer and more youthful looking. Resveratrol Shiraz Instetic Serum This potent skin firming serum was formulated with Sodium Hyaluronate, Dimethylaminoethanol Tartrate, vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate) derivative and Resveratrol Ferment extract to visibly reduce the look of wrinkled skin. Used regularly, this serum will reduce the appearance of aging, for a more youthful look. Resveratrol Shiraz Instentic Non-Surgical Syringe™ This advanced formula is packed with powerful ingredients such as Resveratrol Ferment extract, vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) derivative, Hyaluronic Acid and Avocado Oil (Persea Gratissima Oil). Immediately reduce the look of deep wrinkles with this innovative formulation and advanced application method. I was also sent a set of the Cabernet Rejuvenation Facial and Eye Masks: This wondrous mask was designed to help reduce the look of wrinkles and to give aging skin a beautiful, youthful glow. Infused with Collagen, Lavender Oil and Resveratrol this unique mask will assist with minimizing the appearance of aging skin. When I began my skincare journey with Vine Vera, I knew I wanted to give it a full fighting chance. I religiously used the products both morning and night, along with alternating the facial masks as well as using the eye masks twice a week.  Let's start out with the first product - Resveratrol Shiraz Instetic Serum. The consistency was not very thick, so it really glided onto my skin. I could feel my face drinking the serum up right away, sinking down into my layers quickly. The serum doesn't really change the texture of my skin other than leaving it a bit softer. As a bonus I found that my makeup was gliding on really well after applying the serum. It almost acted as a primer in that way.  The Resveratrol Shiraz Instentic Facelift was the next product I used. The formula is definitely thicker and gave my skin a velvety texture. I was worried that the product would sit on top of my skin, but that wasn't the case. It almost felt like it was sinking into my pores and didn't leave any kind of residue. As a result my skin tightened slightly and like the serum was great under my foundation. I used a bit more at night and my skin again drank it right up, leaving my skin smooth the next morning.  Now for my favorite product -  Resveratrol Shiraz Instentic Non-Surgical Syringe... FYI it's NOT a real syringe. The product is dispensed from the tip of the syringe shaped container, but it's not an injectable product.  I was skeptical about this one because it claimed to be instant tightening. I had used products that claimed to tighten the under eye area instantly before, but once I put makeup on the tightening went away and they got cakey. But not this one. I was able to apply the Instentic Syringe product under my eyes, allow it to dry, and then apply my makeup and the tightness stayed after application. What kind of witchcraft is this??  I got into the habit of using the eye masks a couple of times a week and the full facial masks weekly and loved the soothing effect they had. The eye masks are perfect for wearing while doing my eye makeup. Not only did they de-puff my under eye bags, but they also were totally relaxing. The all-over mask helped my skin detox after wearing makeup every day and just make my face feel completely soft and refreshed.  Overall I feel like the Vine Vera system has definitely improved my skin. As a mid-forties woman I feel like I look younger than my age and much of that I owe to Vine Vera. And not only do I feel like my skin looks better but I feel better in it.  Visit Vine Vera online and at select Vine Vera locations around the world. You can also follow Vine Vera on Facebook and Instagram for new, updates, and specials!

In my circle I see a lot of advice regarding Google SEO. Now, I am no expert and have a lot of learning to do myself, but one thing I do know is redirects and what not to do. Google Bots have been crawling sites for years and I have been studying this for quite some time, yet I still see this advice given almost daily.  Do not - I repeat do not - redirect your 404 to the homepage. Do not redirect dead links to the home page. Please. Don't do it.  Think of the Google crawl as a mouse and your site a maze (sorry to all of the animal lovers, but this is a metaphorical mouse so chill). When that mouse is going through a maze it's looking for cheese. When it goes to a dead end it will turn around and find a new route. Sometimes it will go to that dead end a couple of times, but after that it will drop that turn from it's memory and continue on its path until it finds the prize.  Your deleted post is the dead end. The wall that mouse hits is the 404 page. Now imagine that wall has a door. The mouse gets excited and thinks it's getting closer to the prize, but every time that mouse goes through the door it's back at the start. That mouse will get frustrated and give up, right? Now imagine that mouse is your reader.  Google expects posts of change and be 404'd. It's the nature of a site. Consider that many MANY top sites purge old posts. Google does not penalize sites for purging irrelevant posts. Google WILL penalize sites that redirect to irrelevant pages, such as the front page. Don't do it. It's about user experience. It will also cause Google bots to not drop those deleted posts from their index and it's basically a big mess. Think about this - when Google crawls a sitemap and crawls an URL that the user has redirected to the front page it creates a loop in the crawl. Essentially it will hinder crawls and indexes, which will hurt your search results because posts aren't getting crawled as often as they should.  Google's main goal boils down to user experience. They want readers to stay on your site for as long as possible. The longer readers stay, the better it is in search results because Google sees them as relevant and popular, so it will show them to searchers more. Google will crawl a dead URL around 3 times before it drops that URL from its index. So a 404 is recommended because it will tell Google that page is no longer relevant.  Google recommends an informative and engaging 404 page - at the very least a search option. You can also put top posts, recent posts, whatever as long as it keeps the user on your site. Your theme will probably have this already and you can easily check it out by going to yoursite/404.  Basically Google wants clean and tidy. The spiders don't like to get confused 😉 so if you have to redirect (which if you are rebranding you do need to) make sure it's done correctly - hardcoded through your host htaccess and avoid plugins if possible.  My research includes conversations with top google analysts and reading up on reputable SEO experts such as John Mueller and Gary Illyes.
