Today I got the heartbreaking news about the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, just 3 days after a gunman opened fire at a shopping mall very close to me. I just don’t understand. I don’t get it, how someone can be so disturbed as to shoot and kill random, innocent people. But the thing that makes this especially bad?
Most of the victims were children.
Children who were excitedly waiting for Santa to bring their gifts in a mere 11 days, stockings hung on the chimney. Children who had families who loved them. Some who probably pick out silly and fun outfits to wear to school, has a favorite teddy bear or blanket. I look at my kids and think about things like this – the garage full of their Christmas gifts, their favorite tv shows (Garpard & Lisa and Mickey’s Clubhouse), and the way they give me hugs and tell me “I wuv you mommy”…
Children. Why would anyone do this?
As a mother to two sweet and loving children that I so achingly waited nearly ten years for, I can’t even begin to imagine my life without them. I look at my kids and think about so much – the garage full of their Christmas gifts, their favorite tv shows (Garpard & Lisa and Mickey’s Clubhouse), and the way they give me hugs and tell me “I wuv you mommy”… And how the families of those babes lost in this tragedy will not hear those tender words…
Today I am hugging them close and thanking The Lord every day that they are here. My heart is breaking for the families of this as well as other tragedies that cut the lives of their loved ones so short. I am praying hard for those affected by this senseless act of violence.

With that said I am going dark for the remainder of the day in remembrance of the lives lost.
