We are coming up to the one year anniversary of purchasing our first home. WOW.

2 years ago we wouldn’t have dreamed of being homeowners. We didn’t think our credit was good enough, nor did we think we had enough money. We had no idea what we were in for, no knowledge of the process. In April 2012 my husband and I talked about buying and decided to get serious about it, so we went to a recommended mortgage broker to see what it all entailed and find out how long it would take before we were ready.

Little did we know that we were already there. After our meeting with the broker we met with our real estate agent, and that weekend started looking at houses. It took about 3 solid months before we actually found a home we loved and our offer was accepted. Before that we had put offers on 10 (yes, TEN) other homes only to be outbid. Discouraged? Yes. But my husband and I both knew that if we didn’t stick to it we would be renters our whole lives.

Without taking that leap of faith and just going out there and doing it we wouldn’t have found the perfect house at the perfect price in the perfect neighborhood for us. It all fell into place. When we got the keys we both felt like "WE DID IT". We did what we thought might be impossible for us. But putting the doubt out of our minds got us to accomplish something we never thought we could. And that feels good.

Allstate Good Life feels the same way – there’s triumph over fear if you allow it. You can make the call on success or faliure.

I always tell my children "do you want to be happy or sad?" because I want them to know that THEY control what they want to accomplish.

So what’s YOUR Good Life story? Let me know in comments!
