Movie Review: Muppets Most Wanted! The Music! The Cameos! The Laughter!
I got the pleasure of seeing Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted over the weekend at an advanced screening and LOVED it! I was joined by fellow blogger and good friend Jana at Merlot Mommy along with her girls and my husband and kids and we all enjoyed it immensely.
The story follows Kermit and the gang as they they travel through Europe and Eastern Europe with their new manager Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais). But Kermit is not as he seems and there are a string of robberies in the cities that happen as they perform. Interpol Agent Jean Pierre Napoleon (Ty Burrell of Modern Family) follows the trail to find out that evil mastermind Constantine – a Kermit look-a-like – has switched places with Kermit and is behind the thefts. Nadya (Tina Fey) is the prison guard in Russia who is holding the REAL Kermit in maximum security.
There are some awesome scenes and surprises in this new Muppet installment! The show they put on is reminiscent of The Muppet Show – which I watched religiously as a child. Included are acts like Running With the Bulls (onstage!), Dancing with Monsters, and of course comedy hijinks like being shot out of a cannon. I loved that – it made me want to get The Muppet Show on DVD so I can relive those funny memories.
The cameos are hilarious – Ray Liotta, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, and even P. Diddy have some great moments. And there’s even a wedding (sort of!)
I really enjoyed the film – it was great for my kids who are 4 years old. They absolutely loved Kermit and Miss Piggy.
The best thing about Muppets Most Wanted is that it kept true to the original Muppet characters. Gonzo is still weird, Fozzie Bear is still silly and “punny”, and of course Kermit and Miss Piggy’s chemistry is still as loving and awkward as ever.
Muppets Most Wanted is in theaters everywhere on March 21st! Go see it and take your kids!
