We had so much fun at Marvel Universe Live last night (Moda Center PDX). Being a Marvel fan I was excited to see the new show. The last one I saw introduced Spiderman into the Avengers clan, and now? Star Lord, Gamora, Groot, Drax and Rocket – otherwise known as The Guardians of the Galaxy took center stage in an exciting show filled with pyrotechnics, motorcycle tricks, and martial arts-style tricking and fighting. Joining them were Yondu, Nebula, and Dr. Strange. All in all 25 characters were represented!
In this year’s show, Marvel’s most popular Super Heroes and Villains, including Spider-Man, The Avengers and — in their live-action debut, Guardians of the Galaxy — join together for a legendary battle to defend the universe from evil. Audiences will be transported from the streets of New York to the tropics of the Savage Lands in a quest that pits student against mentor, sister against sister and brother against brother.
The twins LOVED it and got into the action by cheering on their favorites. Riley’s favorite part were the aerial dancers – the two acrobats swung and hung onto yellow silks dangling from the rafters and created some really beautiful movements and shapes. Dylan loved the fighting scenes with all of the flips and tricks. Later I found out that our friends from the kids’ local martial arts studio were invited to train (play) with the performers during a rehearsal earlier in the week, so this morning at class we had a lot to talk about.
The Polynesian fire dancers were AMAZING!
If you have a chance to see Marvel Universe Live: Age of Heroes I highly recommend it. Please also keep in mind that souvenirs are a bit more than retail – A snow cone in a commemorative cup was about $15, and toys range from $20-$60 or more. We opted for a Spiderman snow cone while there. Programs are $20 and are very cool – the covers are 3D and there are plenty of games inside to keep kids busy while waiting for the show and intermission. Concessions/food will vary based on location.
*Thanks to Marvel Universe Live/R-West for hosting my family!
