It’s Official!! Frozen 2 will be coming to theaters! Date TBD 🙂
Let It Go… nope, not yet! Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and Kristoff (even Sven!) are back in the new 7 minute short Frozen Fever, only to be seen in theaters before Disney’s Cinderella out Friday March 13th!
Here’s what’s happening – it’s almost a year later. This time it’s Anna’s birthday! Elsa has several surprises in store for her – that is, unless a cold stops her from spoiling her little sister’s special day. Look for some fun new gowns, LOTS of new characters called snowgies, and maybe even a special declaration!
I saw Frozen Fever in the theater before Cinderella started last weekend at the world premiere and it was adorable. I loved the light storyline – Elsa getting a cold is so perfect for this year when it seemed like everyone was sniffling and sneezing. The animation is of course amazing – when you see it be sure to look at details such as Elsa’s train, you can see every single fiber in it. Also things to watch for – “easter eggs!” Disney is notorious for placing little nods to other Disney characters and films. Although I can’t tell you what or when, I CAN say a newer Disney character makes an appearance toward the end, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
I got to sit down with the creators of Frozen – Oscar winners Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. These two talents are responsible for creating the new classic. Frozen is actually the highest grossing animated film in history and the 5th highest grossing box office film of all time. That’s HUGE. And it all started with a couple of princesses who have had a major impact on our culture.
Reddit round table is where a woman wrote in saying that she was in a bad place and was gonna commit suicide, and saw Frozen and, inspired by Elsa and and her journey, and she said, and I’m still here. Thank you. So, you know, we’re overwhelmed by that. There are autistic kids that watch Frozen that parents tell us they don’t sit still for anything, and they watch Frozen, and they relate to Olaf. Just a few weeks ago, a friend of ours working at a nursing home, and a senior citizen just, she wasn’t really She sort of internal and not doing much. And she watched Frozen. And then she started drawing again – she used to draw when she was younger. And she was drawing the Frozen characters. And her husband was just so grateful she was coming back to life. So you get those are the stories that we go oh wow. And that’s how I think our life has changed. In that regard… Sort of seeing what… We always knew that these films had some influence and power. But this one certainly I’ve never experienced anything like this.
Now that Elsa is no longer chained to her power, Jennifer and Chris wanted to make her more fun and less tragic. They thought “what if Elsa has a cold?” and went with it. Jennifer and Chris laughed and said “when kids sing the song Let It Go, the often say ‘a cold never bothered me anyway’ ‘Cause it’s like a cold, and their lives is so debilitating, and so big that it’s, like, that’s not gonna bother me. I’m gonna get through this! So, it’s so cute when they do it. And I think of it as a little bit of a nod to that, too.”
They wanted to play with her magic in a different way – what if she’s a cold, and the cold wreaks havoc? What would happen if she coughs or sneezes? From there Snowgies were born. And born. And born.
I can’t say much more about the Snowgies – you’ll have to see what happens when you see Frozen Fever before Cinderella. What I CAN say is be on the lookout for the most adorable Snowgies merchandise. According to Chris and Jennifer you will also see the new Elsa and Anna dress-up costumes as well (so we can retire the blue Elsa dress that our daughters have grown out of anyway!). See a list of NEW merchandise here!
As far as what’s next for Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and the rest? We will have to see. Currently Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are working with the Broadway production of Frozen, along with consulting on Frozen Fun, the latest installment at Disney’s California Adventure Theme Park. We asked about the fate of Anna and Kristoff – what’s next for them? A wedding? A family? Jennifer and Chris weren’t sure, but I think we all hope that there is something up their Disney sleeves. edit: JUST ANNOUNCED – Frozen 2 is officially in the works!
