Feeding time

Life She Has

Feeding the twins solid foods at the same time was proving to be a bit of a task. I do it myself. I would love for Josh to help, but that’s a story for another day…

Anyway, the problem I had been running into was keeping them both happy. Dylan would get mad when he didn’t have something in his mouth and would yell at me. Riley is a bit of a slow eater. So I racked my brain with figuring out how to appease them both.

Then I got it.

Have you heard of Baby Safe Feeder? They are those little mesh bags with handles that you can put baby food in so that your child can feed him/herself. I picked up a set of them at a local baby shop figuring with twins they would come in handy. Well they did!

I had made my own baby food using recipes and techniques from an awesome cookbook called Baby Love. I froze the peas into little cubes. Well, I took a couple of cubes and put them into the Baby Safe Feeders and gave them to Dylan and Riley, then got out the bowl of baby food to feed them. Lo and behold, there was no anxious crying or jealousy (yes, it’s starting) because either I was feeding them or they were sucking on their pea-cicles. Bonus – it helped their gums feel better. Teething is a pain.

So you multiple mommies that are reading this – try the Baby Safe Feeder. They are kinda gross, but have helped dinnertime so much in my home…

  1. I have seen those things at the store and wondered about them! I’ll have to grab some today! We have the same problem at feeding time…it gets really loud because they are fussing if they don’t have something in their mouth!!! I have to feed them really really fast or they start arching their backs and throw little tantrums…lol. Thanks for the tip!!

  2. The feeders haven’t been such a hit with Sam and Anna. Anna chews on the handle instead. 🙂 What works for me is offering a sippy cup with water between bites. The water helps them wash down the food. So you might want to try that, too.

  3. We had a different type of baby feeder back in the day that was more like a cup. I used it when traveling. The babies are getting so big!

  4. My kids loved their baby safe feeders! Especially in the summer when I would, puree different fruits and veggies together and put them in an ice cube tray, and then freeze them and plac ein their feeders. They loved it! And your right, it helps with teething too! P.S. check my blog out, you have been TAGGED! 🙂

  5. We Love those feeders! It was great for this past summer when all the fresh fruit was coming in! Ben would eat whole peaches at a time with it and there was ZERO worry of him choking!
