DIY – Travel Surprises To Fend Off Boredom When Traveling #DollarTree
*this post has been edited due to feedback*
If you are anything like me, you are probably going on some last-minute trips before school. Or maybe you are heading over to Grandma’s for the holidays. If you have kids you know how tough it could be to travel.
“Mom, I’m bored”…
Or the little ones start to get fussy. And there’s only so much of the iPad and game consoles I am willing to allow at a time…
Last year when I traveled with my kiddos to New York, we were on a long 9 hour flight. It was tough on them, but I came prepared with a little arsenal – Travel Surprises! Every half an hour or so when the boredom and antsy-ness (is that a word?) kicked in, they got a little trinket to keep them occupied. Everyone was happy. Mission accomplished.
All you need to do is:
1. Head over to Dollar Tree! This is where I get all of my surprise trinkets and school supplies for my kids without breaking the bank. They have some great toys and supplies with characters like Mickey Mouse, Disney Princesses, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Doc McStuffins – all of the characters your kids love. Even Avengers! Pick out a few small toys/prizes, along with a pack of cellophane party bags.
2. Start opening and placing the toys each in the party bags, tying them up with the included twistie.
3. Every time your child starts to lose interest in what they are currently doing, give them something new. The nice thing is you can get some great creative and educational things from Dollar Tree. Grab a few workbooks, coloring books, and card games!
I love the toys that can be shared, like the fun party supply bags full of things like tops, multi-packs of crayons, or travel-sized games. You never know when the magic of making a new friend will happen when you are on the train or plane…
I have used this concept for many long trips. Just remember to bring an extra bag to put the cellophane baggies and toys that aren’t being played with. You can also use them as rewards for a job well done – good grades, chores, and more!
