*Although I paid for this box with my own hard-earned money, I did include affiliate or referral links. All opinions are 100% my own.

If you have been reading my site you will know I have a love for all things subscription boxes – including beauty boxes. I was told by several readers and friends to try out BoxyCharm, a monthly subscription box that’s $21 and includes full size products. I figured why not? So I ordered one for January…

So what did I get? How did I like it? Read on….

Grande Cosmetics – GrandeLIPS Hydrating Lip Plumper

GrandeLIPS, with active Ingredients Volulip gives you an INSTANT plumping effect within 3-5 minutes that lasts for hours. Results may vary.

I got the shade Midnight Purple which was kind of ehhhh… I was actually a little surprised because I didn’t see it really going with the other colors in this box. See, I prefer with darker colors more pigment for coverage and this was just a little sheer, so it was tricky to make it not look streaky. Plumping action was decent, but didn’t last all day.

The formula is not bad but not great. The feel reminds me a lot of Too Faced Melted Latex – kind of a honey-like texture. I did like to applicator tip though – it is a silicone tube that the product rides up by clicking the end of the tube. $27 Retail.

PÜR The Complexion Authority – Bronze and Brighten Cheek Palette

An on-the-go highlight, bronzer and blush palette with three skin perfecting powders to create an effortless and sun-kissed glow on every skin tone. Featuring PUR’s fan favorites Afterglow and Mineral Glow along with a new blush shade, Blushing Glow, throw this in your bag and you’re ready to go!

I am going to admit that the colors of this cheek palette scared the hell out of me. So peachy! I usually go toward pinks, but I was willing to try it out.

Swatching them gave me some MEGA pigment – maybe a little too much? But once I blended it out my fears subsided and I figured I could use this palette. I don’t normally bronze so I tried the bronzer as a contour and did like it like that. The highlight is bright and blingy – you can see this highlight from the moon! The blush is very peach and I found that using all three at once gave me a little too much highlight. I will continue to use that highlighter and bronzer though… $34 Retail.

Crown Pro – Glam Metals Palette

Rock your look with the Crown Pro Glam Metals eyeshadow palette! These highly pigmented, ultra blendable shadows make smokey eye looks a breeze!

I love not only the size of this palette (travel-able!), but the colors are pretty rad overall. And check out that guitar-shaped mirror! Most of the colors are highly pigmented, but I did find that this palette needed something. Maybe a matte cream or white shimmer?

Most pigment: Rebel. I am having a love affair with this gold/bronze shadow. Coverage is a dream and layering is not really needed. Least pigment: The Wicked. I had high hopes for this shade but found it was pretty sheer. I can build it though.. $25 Retail.

Dr. Brandt – pores no more LUMINIZER PRIMER

LUMINIZER PRIMER delivers a natural radiant glow while blurring pores and imperfections for a beautifully illuminated flawless complexion.

This tube is a nice BIG size – I can see it lasting for a while. I do love the formula – it’s glowy and a little sticky so my foundation has something to grab onto. It does filter my pores nicely too. I would absolutely use this again. $38 Retail.

It Cosmetics – Brow Power™ Universal Eyebrow Pencil

Developed with plastic surgeons, IT Cosmetics’ #1 best-selling*, award-winning eyebrow pencil is infused with brow-enhancing biotin, lecithin, saw palmetto, nettle, green tea, antioxidants, grape seed, and vitamins A, B5, C and E, plus proprietary Brow Power™ Technology to give you your most beautiful, natural-looking brows—even if you have none at all. Plus, its universal transforming shade adjusts to all hair colors based on pressure, its exclusive oval tip mimics the look of real hair and it includes a built-in grooming spooley brush for polished perfection! *#1 brow formula for IT Cosmetics brand.

Oh Brow Power, I had such high hopes for you. Hopes that were dashed by a hard kohl and not-so-universal color… It’s pretty light, but to its credit you can build it up.

I had 3 major problems with this:

1 – Not universal color. Way too light, but like I mentioned you can build it up a bit, but for me it’s still too light.

2 – The liner is hard as a rock and I had a hard time using it. It felt like a #2 pencil. So brittle 🙁

3 – The liner was broken on arrival. I didn’t notice until I took the cap off both ends and turned it upside down to check out the spoolie. The entire pencil slipped right out and left me with an empty shell. I pushed it back in but it broke in two other places.

I am going to stick with my Anastasia Beverly Hills brow goodies. I love those. $24 Retail.

Final thoughts…

Overall I found that Boxycharm is totally worth the $21 monthly subscription cost. Although there were a couple of duds (seriously It! Cosmetics, don’t let me down again), this subscription box is pretty rad. Get yours for $21 here!
