75 years is a long ways to go for any company.  But we would not have gotten where we are today, if it weren’t for the building blocks and the values instilled by Mr. Joe Albertson.  To celebrate his legacy, we have been collecting your stories about Joe.  Do you have a story or memory about Joe Albertson?  Share it with us here.

I love that Albertsons Stores is celebrating the legacy of Joe Albertson. the man who started the widely recognized Albertsons Grocery Stores. It’s been 75 long years since he branched off from Safeway in 1939 where he built it on 3 principles: quality, good value, and excellent service. By the 1960’s Albertsons had grown to over 600 stores throughout the West, including California, Washington, Idaho, and my home, Oregon!

In 1966, Joe and Kathryn established the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation as a way to administer their own charitable giving. They focused their giving primarily on education, which was important to Joe and Kathryn because neither was able to finish college during the Great Depression. Since then, the foundation has given more than $240 million to Idaho’s communities and education systems. The foundation continues to give to charities, primarily in areas where Joe and Kathryn lived or worked in Idaho.

Now Albertsons is a household name and regular stop for myself and many families like me. I go because the service is always great and the prices are always the lowest in the area – especially NOW with the 75th Anniversary sale going on through August 15th! Head over to find your deals HERE
